About the event

Good gardeners don't grow plants, they grow soil. Composting can help by turning food waste into a nutrient-rich soil conditioner that will help your edibles thrive. Compost also helps reduce our waste, increases soil water retention, improves soil structure.

Learn how to start a compost at home in this hands on session with the queen of compost, Kylie Treble. Get the lowdown on what you’ll need to get started, positioning your compost, keeping your worms happy and tips and tricks to composting success.

We'll cover:

  • An overview of what is compost & different composting methods - there are many!

  • What is living soil and how it helps plants grow

  • Building your compost with a hands on backyard build

We acknowledge the Peek Whurrong People of the Maar Nation as the original custodians of the land on which we meet and garden. Our garden adjoins a significant place, we continue to learn its history as we work together in a spirit of reconciliation.
