Celebrating the winter solstice

Writer's picture: Courtney MathewCourtney Mathew

The solstice marks the shortest day of the year, and the longest night. It's the turn of the season, and marks the point where our days will begin to get longer again.

For the second year, Heather Ryan and her helpers ran a fun, creative session making candles decorated in winter solstice themes from foraged materials to create a unique piece to enjoy through the dark night.

Many young and not-so-young participants played with tea candles (battery-powered), autumn leaves, crayons, nature-themed stickers and semi-translucent velum paper.

We acknowledge the Peek Whurrong People of the Maar Nation as the original custodians of the land on which we meet and garden. Our garden adjoins a significant place, we continue to learn its history as we work together in a spirit of reconciliation.
