Wayne Saunders from Warrnambool Garden Equipment Repairs has made an amazing contribution to the garden by generously swapping out an old ride-on mower for a brand new Parkland machine.
The new mower boasts a slightly wider cutting width compared to the old machine, allowing for more efficient mowing of the garden's expansive areas. Its modern design and advanced features leapfrog the community garden past impending repairs that would have been necessary on the aging equipment. This upgrade is crucial for maintaining the garden’s lush landscapes, which include communal vegetable patches, fruit trees, native bush food gardens and lots and lots of lawn!
Our first ride on lawn mower, Herbie, was critical to being able to expand the use of our site in 2018. That purchase was made with thanks to the Warrnambool City Council infrastructure funding and local donations. The mower has put in hundreds of hours so it was about time it retired.
Wayne was joined by site manager Dave and volunteer Ngawan to celebrate this generous donation. The introduction of this new mower will significantly enhance the efficiency of garden maintenance by:
Increased efficiency: A wider cut means less time spent mowing, allowing volunteers to focus on other important tasks within the garden.
Reduced downtime: New equipment minimizes the risk of breakdowns and repairs, ensuring that maintenance can continue smoothly.
Enhanced safety features: Modern mowers often come equipped with improved safety features, making them safer for users.
The Warrnambool Community Garden is a vibrant space featuring over 50 plots, including communal vegetable areas, an extensive herb garden, and a Chook Hilton. Regular activities include communal work sessions where volunteers come together to plant, tend, and harvest produce. These sessions not only contribute to the garden's upkeep but also create opportunities for social interaction and skill sharing among participants.
Wayne Saunders' generous donation of a new mower exemplifies the spirit of community support that is vital to the success of the garden. Thank you Wayne!
