Top volunteering efforts from teenage groups

South West Local Learning and Employment Network (SWLLEN) run a program for students from the larger secondary schools with a volunteering component. Over three Thursdays they have planted in the quarry to help stabilise the banks of the amphitheatre ready for spring, done some propagation, and carried out a range of other volunteering activities including helping our members spread mulch on paths.

Another group of teenagers taking part in the Stoked Surf Therapy Camp with Brophy Family and Youth Services came in for a tour and some planting activities. Because of the wild weather, the quarry was not an option. Instead, we made up punnets of native plant seeds which will hopefully germinate and grow on for us to use.

We acknowledge the Peek Whurrong People of the Maar Nation as the original custodians of the land on which we meet and garden. Our garden adjoins a significant place, we continue to learn its history as we work together in a spirit of reconciliation.
